Their Holy Book advises them of such dangers.
Many of his followers believe he was sent by God. After all, look at all the issues that he supports that we have held dear for many years? He is "pro-life" and pro-religion. He is a friend of Israel.
But, they forget the Golden Rule. They overlook the Sermon on the Mount. They are blind to the way he has treated the least amongst us. They are willing to look the other way when he slanders his fellow man.
In my opinion, they need to shake the dust off their Bible.

(873 posts)True believers change from the inside. Being a horrible person means that the change is only skin deep. You can become a true Christian without ever even walking into a church or joining the Jesus club.

(2,785 posts)Christians and none-Christians alike. Within the truest context of what the bible teaches and about the nature of humans. The only difference is God has bestowed electing grace for eternal salvation on Christians which is something we don't deserve anymore than none-Christians. We are no better than anybody else.

(14,854 posts)There is no one who doesn't fit into either of those categories, yes? And you seemed to say that horrible people aren't true Christians. That makes them non-Christians, by definition.

(4,490 posts)36 Teacher, which is the greatest commandment in the Law?
37 Jesus replied: Love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your mind. 38 This is the first and greatest commandment. 39 And the second is like it: Love your neighbor as yourself. 40 All the Law and the Prophets hang on these two commandments.
There's still plenty of room in there to support some horrible and destructive things and be a Christian believer, but in Trump's case, they're allowing themselves to be led by someone who has broken every commandment in the book. Holding him up as your leader and role model doesn't really give any wiggle room.
I'm an Atheist, but there are certain things in there that can make it pretty clear someone is a real Christian, or not.

False.

(14,561 posts)evangelicals who believe that they are doing the right thing to sabotage things the government does that are morally right, because the so-called rapture and second coming of Christ needs to be hastened. They think they are helping to hasten it by their actions.
If you are familiar at all with political theory, this is Leninism at its best. Karl Marx believed that the western capitalist democracies would fall of their own accord, but Lenin didn't see that happening fast enough and so he created a doctrine whereby the Soviet Union would actively sabotage what the west was trying to do, which wasn't all bad if you look at it - we had noble people who actually tried to make things better in the world. They did.
And the Soviets sabotaged those efforts every step of the way.
Ironic to me that the same dynamic is taking place today, and that Russia is every bit as involved.

(14,561 posts)fundamental teachings of Christ.
I'm sorry for that, because those teachings - the Sermon on the Mount, and the Golden Rule - those are things that we can all live by, and that, if we did live by them, this world would be a much, much better place.
Thank you for posting this, because with Trump, the GOP has surrendered the moral high ground, forever.
I belong to an IONS group in my state, and in our last session we spoke at length about how touching the funeral of Elijah Cummings was. One member made the point that when we made all the progress around civil rights, it was the black churches that led the way. I mean, one of my very favorite essays is Martin Luther King Junior's Letter from Birmingham Jail. HE had the moral high ground there.
And, when Christians began to oppose the war in Vietnam, which was being fought by my generation for the benefit of the Military Industrial Complex, the corporate greed-gods and billionaire parasites knew they would have to pervert the Christian message.
Lewis Powell's 1971 Manifesto to the US Chamber of Commerce laid the groundwork, and the crazy-Christians who were virulently anti-abortion provided the capitalists with a very convenient way they could twist the message and 'take' or let us say steal the moral high ground.
AND WE LET THEM DO IT.
Well, folks, after Trump and his criminal activities and crimes against humanity, after the unilateral war W launched and its attendant war crimes, after HW and his first oil war, the Republicans don't ever get to take the moral high ground again. They don't.
But we still have the MIC sucking up $733 billion this year, and the drain on our treasury from the giant tax cut for billionaire donor parasites and corporations. And now we have the Russian oligarchs running the Republican party through Trump, and the AM talk radio so cleverly set up according to the Powell manifesto aiding and abetting.
These people KNOW they don't have the high ground. But their greed and lust for power has created within them a blindness that has brought us to the brink of extinction. As a species.
So.....................will we actually GROW UP, and begin planning forward as a species? Or will we do nothing and suffer catastrophe?
Someone on here actually had the temerity to tell me, and I quote, "We aren't raising taxes to give you healthcare." This after he told me that he was "really well off and he could afford 'platinum coverage,' okay?"
I said that is great, and while I rejoice with him in his success and prosperity, he shouldn't be able to by 'platinum coverage' when there are people in this country who have NO coverage.
Now if someone on this very site still comes out with this greed- and fear-based position, how will mainstream Americans and Canadians, and Mexicans, and South Americans, and Africans and Europeans and Asians be able to put aside this fear so that we can move forward as we should - to the next level - as a species?
