It's November 3, exactly one year before the 2020 election.

However, there is stuff that needs to be done right now. So, I went out to the garage, brought out the snow shovels, and put them by the side porch near my driveway. I also put some gasoline in the snowblower, blew all the dust and leaves off of it, and fired it up to make sure it's ready to use. It goes. It blows. It's ready, even if I'm not.

Already, they're predicting a couple of inches of snow on the ground this coming Wednesday morning, here in the Twin Cities of Minnesota. Despite living here for years, people forget from one year to the next about driving in the snow. So, Wednesday morning, if the weather report is accurate, we'll get to celebrate the first measurable snow of the 2019-2020 winter.

How does Minnesota celebrate that? We celebrate winter on the morning traffic reports, where we'll hear, once again this year, "Well folks, it's a mess out there on the freeways. We have reports of 900 vehicles in the ditch already and over 400 accidents. Please drive carefully, slow down, and leave plenty of room between you and the car ahead of you." Then, we go outside and clear the snow off our driveways and sidewalks for the first time this year, muttering under our breaths all the while.

The government would do well to start massive public service ads for how people should prepare for the snow. It’s not like it’s wasted money.

Getting caught off guard is pretty stupid in states where it snows.
