He commits his crimes in the open to see what he can get away with. Republican officials don't care because they support him or are afraid of him (someone like Mitt Romney is the exception to this). Trump's hard core base also do not care. They want a criminal in the White House. Trump was not kidding when he said that he could shoot someone on 5th Avenue and not lose a vote. His base would cheer. Trump is a criminal, a clown, and a joke. But so was Hitler and Mussolini. Trump is also a dangerous and cunning sociopath who would love to be authoritarian dictator for life. We should not underestimate him or the evil of some of his followers.
It is my hope that we can vote Trump out in 2020 without any sort of domestic incident. Will some of the crazier right wingers take a Trump loss badly enough to take up arms? I do not know, but we must be prepared. There are many good people still in law enforcement and military and counter-terrorism who know that there are some dangerous extremists in the Alt Right. They are keeping an eye on these people, and are prepared to stop domestic terrorists should Trump inspire them to violence.
