Trump Refuses to Rule Out Shutting Down the Federal Government if Democrats Don't End Impeachment...

...Inquiry

President Donald Trump, speaking to reporters from the South Lawn of the White House Sunday afternoon, refused to rule out shutting down the Federal government if Democrats don’t end the impeachment inquiry.

The president took time to erroneously frame the impeachment inquiry, falsely claiming it is over just his July 25 phone call during which he attempted to extort the president of Ukraine.

Asked if he would “commit to no government shutdown,” President Trump refused.

“It depends on the negotiation — I wouldn’t commit to anything,” Trump replied, after taking several swipes at Democrats.

Of course this is what he will do... he does not give a shit about anyone but himself. His supporters could be starving in the street and he would not care as long as they were still wearing their MAGAT hats.

He thinks he's a dictator, and sadly most of the Repubs in congress are doing nothing to shut that down.

Trump is a moron. He will convict himself with his own testimony.

We don't have a parliament that can be dissolved by somebody. Can't Congress keep working (for FREE), and if the lights get turned off go somewhere? Or vote the shutdown out?

They must however, comport to the Constitution. I am sure they can work during a shut down, however you also have to realize that Congress consists of two branches and currently one branch, The Senate, is still very much in league with Trump. The House cannot act alone to make changes to how government operates. Usually the government has shut down because funding measures are not put into place and recently (the last 10 years) the government has operated from year to year or for 3 to 6 month stretches with temporary funding bills.

Certainly Congress can pass a funding bill that keeps everything working over Trump's veto, but that requires 2/3rds majorities in Both chambers, and that is VERY unlikely to happen.
