Will Senate Republicans eventually jump ship?

Let's say that more and more testimony on Ukraine confirms QPQ and shows an extended Extortion/Blackmail scheme with Rudy, Kushner and others dating back months. Let's say Bolton gives strong damning testimony against Trump and maybe somebody else flips.

Then, Trump tax returns finally get released early next year and show clear evidence of tax and/or financial fraud as well as debts to Russian lienholders and strong evidence of money laundering. He's also shown to be far less rich than claimed (say in that $150 million to $250 million as shown in the book Trump Nation, or even less than that)

Additionally, more batches of emails from the underlying Mueller Report get released and are damning as well.

Will we eventually get anybody in the Senate GOP standing up and saying "enough is enough" and try to salvage their political futures and insist that Trump gets impeached. Romney? Sasse? Gardner?

Or, are they going down with the Trumptanic?

been rulings that he must release his tax returns? It’s getting appealed i think. Also doesn’t the law state that they “shall be issued”? It seems to me that there is a legal basis for it.

...there have been rulings that he must submit them to Congress or legal authorities. They in turn do not have the legal right to make them public outside of evidence in a legal process.

Simple question: should Congress or the NY Attorney General be able to release YOUR tax returns simply because they think it would be a good idea?

wouldn’t it stand to reason we are talking about tax returns being released to congress? Not understanding your argument. There is no legal basis against the returns being released to congress. Congress meaning both chambers.

Where did OP state that tax returns would be made public?

Senate repubs don't necessarily have to have the returns made public in order for them to turn on Trump. Sure it would help and I suppose they could leak to the public but they could actually ya know do their duty. As I mentioned it was never stated by the OP that the tax returns would be made public. The OP made a statement asking if senate repubs would jump sship having been privvy to that info.

My answer is that likely it is a no that they will ever jump ship.

Republican Senators up for re-election are in safe pro-Trump States.

Kris Kobach is polling 10 points behind Barry Grissom, the former US attorney and likely Democratic nominee there. That's why the GOP is pushing for Pompeo to run for the Senate there.

The GOP has 2 Senate seats up in Georgia as well. Stacey Abrams lost statewide in GA by 1.5% for Governor. She's done great work since that time in voter registration and fighting against voter fraud in GA. I'd think Democrats have a chance at 1 seat there.

Tillis is polling in the low 30s in NC

Bullock won statewide in Montana and could win there if he decides he wants to run for Senate.

Cornyn, McConnell and Graham are all polling poorly and have challengers raising big bucks

Go down lying, or go down standing up for the rule of law.

We shall see.

Interesting position Romney put himself in.

Then the Repubs in Congress will.

Not before.

They know they will lose their jobs otherwise, and they lack the integrity to be willing to give the jobs up and get other jobs.

Romney is in a state that dislikes Trump a bit more than do others, so he has a little more flexibility. No surprise that has edged into the water a bit.

McTurtle and Hannity will convince all of them that their ship is unsinkable. Even when they are drowning, they will assume the sink sprang a leak, and the plumber is on his way. Voting machines will be rigged, as usual, and Republican gerrymandering will take care of the local elections.

Only a mass of Democratic voting will withstand the evil tide, and anyone who thinks they won't try every scam in the book, legal or otherwise, is fooling themselves. We can beat this, but it won't happen merely because a majority of voters want it to happen.

One thing and one thing only could cause Republicans to desert their naked emperor and the Turtle: a huge wave of their own internal polling that shows a majority of congressional Republican candidates in 2020 losing by double digits. In that case, Trump will not be their nominee.

If McConnell thinks the R majority could be lost if they support Trump, McConnell will be telling the Rs to cut bait and live with President Pence.
