so lemme see if i got this straight: if you're part of the religious right,

the sin of teh gay is so so bad you can't even bake a cake for them

but you can vote for president someone who lies relentlessly; commits adultery; pays people to lie for him; tramples on the meek; steals and cons and grifts to line his own pocket; routinely commits, let's see, sloth, anger, glutt... ok *all* of the seven deadly sins...

... and doesn't even fake interest in church.

ok.

so.

question:

if you're part of the religious right, is it ok to bake a cake for donnie?

if yes, what is it about the sin of teh gay that bars cake while donnie's sins don't?

...and that’s the step-by-step directions for doing one in the Book of Numbers.

They rely on two passages to justify their beliefs: the “before I formed you in the womb I knew you” line in Jeremiah (ignoring that it applies only to the Prophet Jeremiah) or the “thou shalt not kill” line in the Ten Commandments (ignoring not only that the Old Testament is full of killing, but that Leviticus 20 gives you a list of everyone you’re ordered to kill and the reasons for killing them).

What that means is that they are expressly forbidden to think on their own. They believe that their mega-preachers have a direct line to God and what they say is considered the only answer. They attend Bible colleges instead of accredited universities because they are afraid of losing their faith. These colleges reinforce the brainwashing.

We are related to a bunch of them. I can't stand to even talk with them, but my husband manages because they're his siblings. They really don't like Trump, but their preachers told them that if they vote for a Democrat, they will go to hell because of abortion. They are absolutely terrified of hell more than anything else. There is no way to change them or reason with them.

Religion is not the reason, it's the excuse. The actual agenda is to keep traditional rural "real American" culture in a position of privileged supremacy over other cultures. Christianity as a marker of cultural privilege matters -- Christianity as a practice of faith does not.

to them, there *is* something vastly worse about homosexuality and abortion than any other sin mentioned in the bible.

i have no idea what it's supposed to be. abortion, i kinda get that they think it's murder, and certainly murder is indeed a very bad sin. i guess there, they think a fetus is the only form of human that is free of sin. well, i suppose, a fetus must have original sin, but it didn't do anything voluntarily wrong. of course, the instant a fetus is born and becomes and actual human, they don't give a crap about it. i guess that first screaming gasp for air must be a sin in their books, so doing all sorts of things to endanger its life from that point on is no big deal.

certainly not as big a deal as loving someone with genitals shaped other than in the biblically-prescribed way. that somehow is way worse than stealing or even taking the lord's name in vain, etc.
