Good quid pro quo: we do "x" for your country - you do "y" for our COUNTRY, not for our PRESIDENT!

It looks like the latest GOP strategy for Trump's survival is to accept that a quid quo pro occurred, but that such an action is not impeachable because "governments do it all the time". This line of defense is total nonsense, and if it is not obliterated, Trump could wiggle out of the mess he is in. If you don't think he can wiggle out of it, then I have swampland in Florida with eleven obstructions of justice citations to sell you for next to nothing. I say "next to nothing", because somehow Trump and his goons have made obstruction of justice pretty much a "nothing".

Of course when they say that about quid pro quo's, they are consciously leaving out the key point, which is that properly functioning democracies DON'T do that for the benefit of their leaders...they do it for the benefit of their countries. Trump's survival may depend on making sure that a good percentage of the public does NOT make the distinction between quid pro quo's benefiting the country versus benefiting the leader of the country.

Why isn't the main point from my thread title brought up every time a Trump backer declares that "It's a normal part of foreign policy that governments do quid pro quo's all the time with other governments"? Unfortunately, it is not brought up even half the time. I saw William Bennett say it today, with no retort by other panelists, nor was a distinction made by the questioner.

I say it again: THIS DEFENSE OF TRUMP'S MUST BE OBLITERATED NOW!

Also, lately I have rarely heard comments on what is one of the biggest offenses in this controversy: Trump's using OUR money, directed by Congress for the benefit of Ukraine and the security of the US, along with the overwhelming power of OUR federal government and its justice department, to not just help himself, but to attack, wound, and possibly even imprison his political opponents. This is not simply an abuse of power....NO....these are police state tactics....a series of classically fascist acts. This also is not pushed by the Democrats enough....actually, I never hear it at all.

So in the end, we don't just have Trump's effort to receive foreign help in the election (a crime), we also don't just have the quid pro quo for the benefit of the president, and we don't just have a garden variety of abuse of power (which, of course, is never really garden variety). No....we also have fascist police state tactics, and this also needs to be constantly pushed.

Edit: typo..

Also...."He's using the power of the justice and state departments, along with law enforcement, to drum up criminal charges against his political opponents, which would also serve to fire warning shots at those thinking of becoming a political opponent."
