2. As has been pointed out but probably not enough, no transcript has been made available to read.

All we have is a brief call summary. And even that is damning. If only we had the actual transcript and other transcripts that were unnecessarily placed on the server meant for highly classified information (or destroyed).

Trump campaign understands that his voters don't listen to anyone but him. If he says that the transcript exonerates him,they don't need to read it. They know he's "right".

I think it's important we all drink fall into the trap of believing there is no method to the madness. There is a deliberate effort to tell the most unimaginable lies.

Because it works because he's also saying ...

“Yes, (I) lie. But others also lie. So you may as well stay with your liar, instead of the enemy liar.”

That's an enormously important idea for us all to understand.

It works on the people who will stand with Trump no matter what. The point is that the 'base' who does so isn't enough to re-elect him.

Trump has to broaden his 'base' in order to win in 2020 - and "Read the transcript" isn't going to broaden that base. It is, however, an invitation to fence-sitters to actually look at the facts - facts that point to his guilt rather than his innocence.

Saying there is a 'method to the madness' doesn't change the fact that it IS madness, and only the truly mad are impressed by it.

11. OK, so has anyone figured out what to do about it?

I have been too depressed lately to even bother with DU. Even Stephen Colbert, who used to be able to make me laugh even at the worst of times, just can't make this shit funny.

I have been battling ignorance and mob mentality all my adult life. Over the past 20 years, I could see this descent and this horrible result, this nightmare in which we're living now, if people didn't wise up. I've taught in public schools for many years as well as trying to educate my RW relatives the falseness and propagandistic nature of those RW chain emails that used to do what Facebook now does even more effectively. To no avail.


I just feel like good has lost and evil and ignorance have won. The RW propaganda machine has been so well-funded, so expertly run, and so astoundingly effective at brainwashing enough people that I just can't see how they aren't lost to reality forever and we to their destructive power. I am so fucking despondent.

The lift in spirits I got from news of some good election results tonight is already beginning to wear off.

So, if anyone knows how we fight this, I'd love to hear it.
