Why are all these Democratic candidates who are running for national office former military?

It used to be that former military ran for office as Republicans.

Is it because they trust the government even if the Republican Party doesn't?

There are many, many Democrats who have served in the military, you know. So, please list the names of "all these Democrats" and we might be able to answer more specifically.

And often, in my limited experience, men and women who have volunteered to lead in wartime are less concerned with getting rich then those that choose to lead in the business world.

That said, being a military leader does not confer good motives. Several republican senators come to mind. Internal values are not necessarily changed by the service.

They can find progressive ex-military if they wanted to do but they tend to only want veterans that want more war. I'm a progressive veteran myself.

The reason they do because they are under the impression Republicans are better on national security so they want a military face to counter that impression.
