And Erin Edwards is the first LGBT person elected to Riverside’s council, which makes it even sweeter.

Demographic changes are rendering the GOP a non-entity even in the Inland Empire. Our Congressional representative is an openly gay high school literature teacher, if that’s any indication of our political bent.

City council races are non-partisan and mostly ignored in Riverside but this crop of candidates brought a lot of energy and enthusiasm to the race and inspired people to step up and be heard. The non-partisan nature of the position means I can’t say for certain what party our previous council members belonged to, however.
