It would require a constitutional amendment which requires a supermajority in the legislature and a successful vote of the people. Judicial elections are popular with Texans and the earliest they could take this up is 2021 by which time there could very well be more Dems in the legislature.

and are ready to discard it if it doesn't give them what they want is not confined to the right. We have a candidate on the left who had large support for illicitly oversetting the Democratic primary's majority choice if he could. He promised to many times and eventually did when he lost by almost 4 million votes.

Appalling, but we have to look coldly and honestly at it and admit that it happened in our party so we can make sure it doesn't happen again. We once wouldn't have believed that openly, blatantly trying to set aside the group decision of 30 million Democrats, who all believed their choice would count, could happen. But in this troubled era it really did happen, and both the shocking contempt for democracy and lack of awareness of the weakness and danger we share with the right are scariest of all.
