I'm now 100% convinced: every single person who is going to vote for Trump after all this...

is a racist...I guess there could be a few dumb shits.

Even those that I know. I'd always wondered if the leaned that way, now I believe it to be true.

I said it on FaceBook a couple years ago, and a few people (I didn't know) replied, "So you're calling me a racist?"
No. I'm saying I believe you are a racist if you vote/support Trump after all of this.

They need an authority figure to provide answers for them. Which is why evangelicals, who also have this inner need, make up a large part of his base.

Now this authority figure, probably right wing, as most authoritarians are from that spectrum (Liberals being all liberal and all) can be a simple technocrat and be hard about deficits and the debt. Pro austerity, cutting services, but never raising tax on the wealthy. Usually lowing them. And thus eating up any savings from all those cuts to services and benefits no one is getting anymore. But we expect that in any Republican or Conservative administration. Its what they do.

Trump is 'a ho otha leva' Trump voters can ride his coat tails made of sheer unearned arrogance and self righteousness. Its not just policy, Moscow Mitch takes care of all that for him. its that they can live through his whole personality. He dares express all the dark latent prejudices we all harbour deep down. Some of us stop and rationalize ourselves out of that train of thought, or better yet never allow it to gain any traction, but there's always some that can't. Too stupid, or evil, or crazy. and as long as the big dumb wanna-be gangster is entertaining, every day in the most tabloid way, and never shows any remorse or regret for anything, they'll lap him up! because it means they don't have to have any regrets either. He liberates them from their shame and racist guilt.

Like the second coming of Jesus. He wears every dirty deed, or word, or insult, or theft, or affair, or abuse, on himself for them on his own gold gilded cross. Maybe its all sewn into his tie as it gets longer every month. He still could shoot someone, and maybe he'd be charged for it, but he wouldn't lose his cult. That Trump spectrum, will continue to vote for him, if they can. And will follow him on Twitter and elsewhere no matter what.

It was crystal clear well before the 2016 election that Trump was a racist (and sexist, xenophobe, rapist, fraud, tax cheat, etc.).

The "economic anxiety" crowd (including, sadly, some on the left end of the political spectrum) never stopped to wonder why it is that something like 98% of Black women apparently don't experience a bit of this "economic anxiety." Some of those folks are still convinced that the key to success in 2020 is converting Trump supporters. Beyond ignorant.

i honestly believe he is a data point in the cambridge analytica scandal.
racism has been an extremely effective tool in all this, but it isnt the only button they pushed.
this person is an obama=>sanders=> trump voter, and imho, he was a different sort of target in this whole thing.
they really worked his sense of justice and fairness, and i describe him thus-
the real deep state poured an toxic hallucinogen into his brain through the hole in his head.
he believes a lot of stupid ct shit, and i think this is just one more.
he was trolled into being a troll by poking him in the center of his essential decency.
i hold out hope for his awakening.

in most cases, you are correct, but i am quite curious to see what happens when and if reality breaks through to this one.

The Brainwashing of My Dad

As Jen Senko tries to understand the transformation of her father from a nonpolitical Democrat to an angry Republican fanatic, she uncovers the forces behind the media that changed him completely: a plan by Roger Ailes under President Richard Nixon for a media takeover by the Republicans, the 1971 Powell Memo urging business leaders to influence institutions of public opinion (especially the media, universities, and courts), the 1987 dismantling of the Fairness Doctrine under President Ronald Reagan, and the signing of the 1996 Telecommunications Act under President Bill Clinton. The documentary aims to show how the media and the nation changed, which leads to questions about who owns the airwaves, what rights listeners and watchers have, and what responsibility the government has to keep the airwaves fair, accurate, and accountable.

The propaganda brainwashing is reversible, to a degree, but it requires removing the influence that caused the transformation. Fox News isn't going anywhere for now, and Zuckerberg likes Facebook the way it is.

There's at least one member of my family who has undergone this type of character and personality change (mostly thanks to Bill O.) and at this point it looks like it's probably going to be permanent. It's sad and frustrating to see a good person turn into somebody you don't even recognize any more. Our family cannot touch political discussions. It just rips us all to shreds if we don't ignore the stinky elephant in the room, and I put up with it because the children (now grown) are wonderful, having children of their own, and I love them and don't want to miss seeing them. It just makes me feel like something has been stolen from all of us. It's awful.

have in common is that they blame liberals for the fact that they have to look at unattractive homeless people in their expensive San Francisco neighborhoods.

They don’t have a problem with immigrants so much as they have a problem with the down and out. And they believe that the down and out make their way here because the liberals insist on taking such good care of them.

You know, by letting them sleep in doorways and under freeways where they spoil the view.

with the Christian right. They are all about suppressing LGBTQ and women. They have been infiltrating the top levels of the US government for decades, while gay and women's rights advanced. With Trump, who has no regard for the rule of law or the rights granted by our Constitution, they can fulfill their agenda of "protecting" their extreme fundamentalist Christian beliefs. That would be, no gays or women need apply.

They'll go after the non Christians and the non whites later.. first it's the gays and women that need to get back into line.

We are good at making it clear that we know we are better human beings than everyone who votes Republican and certainly anyone who ever voted for Trump.

I'm not saying that our discernment of his lack of character and unfitness wasn't better. It's just that assuming the worst about people we don't know is prejudice.

Personally I think tribalism may well be the biggest factor for many. They identify as Rs and despise the sense that Ds look down their noses at them. FOX NEWS and other RW media certainly make sure they are aware of it. Limbaugh says we HATE Trump supporters, for instance. (And not without some evidence that it could be true, by the way.)

If we are conveying that we believe we are morally and intellectual superior it's not surprising if it makes Rs flaming mad and glad to do whatever it takes to frustrate Ds. Tribalism predisposes them to vote R even for bad candidates like Trump.

Maybe it's only venting in this safe place or with safe friends, but it does reach them. It may not be that many of us but it's enough to convince Rs it is all of us, especially with people like Limbaugh acting as a megaphone to amplify it. He knows how to stoke their anger and play them like a fiddle, and it's too bad we make that easy for him to do so all too often.
