The latest GOP strategy (it may be all they have left) for Trump's survival is to accept that a quid quo pro occurred, but that such an action is not impeachable because "our government does it all the time". This line of defense is total nonsense, and if it is not obliterated, Trump could wiggle out of the mess he is in.
I keep hearing Republicans say we do quid pro quo's like Trump did on a regular basis, and rarely is that challenged. Trump's survival may depend on making sure that a good percentage of the public does NOT make the distinction between quid pro quo's benefiting the country versus benefiting the leader of the country.
That seems to be their only defense at this point. It's easily beaten down if our side repeats the distinction just as often as the Republicans try to blur it.

Think of where this puts the repubs. It's far easier for them to say "quid pro quo is no big deal" instead of "extortion and bribery is no big deal".
