Yesterday I binge watched a couple of them and I want to recommend them. Theres a series called Greatest Events of WWII In Color.
It covers both the war in Europe and Russia and in the Pacific and even though Ive watched my share of WWII documentaries there seems to be a lot more footage than Ive ever seen before. The colorization gives it new life and is very well done.
I know many have seen it but if youre one of those people who think youve pretty much seen all the footage there is youll be very surprised.
The other one is of the Hollywood directors who went to film the war. The title is something like Five Returned. Youll catch their footage in the other documentaries.

Its called They Shall Not Grow Old. Its colorized and fixed up for modern adudiences.
Really a good film, though much is hard to watch.

The documentary focuses on five directors John Ford, William Wyler, John Huston, Frank Capra, and George Stevens whose war-related works are analysed by modern filmmakers, respectively Paul Greengrass, Steven Spielberg, Francis Ford Coppola, Guillermo del Toro, and Lawrence Kasdan.
Meryl Streep, who serves as narrator, won the Primetime Emmy Award for Outstanding Narrator for her performance.

After watching that I realized that footage of the battle of Midway was shot by Houston.
I wonder if footage which George Stevens locked away is some of the footage used in this documentary.
There was a lot of footage of the Barbarossa campaign from both sides which Ive never seen before. The Russian scorched earth practice and a lot of footage of Stalingrad during the campaign is used.
