(118,633 posts)credentials were hyped during his elections though i can't imagine Jimmy doing that. Probably the politicos. Anyhow sorry. I thought it was a great story. Still is. You'd have to be brave to go towards a nuclear power plant in crisis anyways.

(4,473 posts)During Hyman Rickover's time as head of the nuclear navy. Rickover had an obsessive fixation on safety and quality control and demanded that the men who worked with nucs be trained and tested to extremely high standards. Carter once described himself as "a nuclear engineer", and since he served under Rickover, there was justice in his claim.
No, Carter was not just some Joe Blowe with a "non credit course" under his belt. He was an actual expert -- if he wasn't an expert, Rickover wouldn't have kept him.

(1,301 posts)I was 18 when he ran for his second term. I remember that election night well. I had such a huge lump in my throat and pit in my stomach as the results came in.

(25,851 posts)At the time I was attending a local junior college. On election, the teacher of my psych course, at the beginning of class said,"I'm sure you all know that today is election, and I'm pretty sure you are old enough to vote. I want to encourage you to vote today. But please keep in mind, that a low voter turnout favors Republicans, so if you're a Republican, don't vote."
I was the ONLY person in the class who got it, and I almost fell out of my chair laughing.

(21,433 posts)My first time was in 1972. I was 18 in 1968 but the voting age was still 21 then. By the time it was changed to 18 before the 72 election, I was already over 21.

I wonder if this could be related to that fall. I hope he makes out okay, he's such a good man. Always helping people.

(53,410 posts)A bruise is when it bleeds under the skin. He was getting over it though. Maybe all thats needed is easing the pressure a bit.

(799 posts)You have set an exemplary example of how people and especially leaders should be. We would love to have you around forever but we know that can't happen and it honestly is for selfish reasons. We love you and we need you as a leader who is highly respected to show us how we should care for our fellow man and what is important. We wish you the best as long as your quality of life is good and you want to be here with us. You are in our hearts and minds and we are pulling for a speedy recovery!

Rural_Progressive
(1,105 posts)but at a certain point in life for those fortunate to live long enough systems start to fail and things go downhill. It appears that President Carter has reached that point.
My most fervent hope for him is that he has the peaceful, dignified passing that he so richly deserves after many years of service to others rather than himself.
LanternWaste
(37,748 posts)but Jimmy Carter in recovery now. Latest report says the procedure was completed with no complications.
Rural_Progressive
(1,105 posts)I am delighted he has tolerated this procedure without any undo complications.
What I am addressing is the series of events that lead up to the procedure being necessary. My experience is that when the downhill slide starts at that age it is very difficult to stop. President Carter appears to have begun that slide, I have watched much the same sort of thing happen when I was younger and a first responder and now as a senior have seen family, friends, and members of my community go through the same process
When it is time for President Carter to pass, as I said I wish him the gift of a dignified, peaceful passage. Until then President Carter, my older family members and friends all serve as an inspiration to me that I may have another useful and productive 20, 25 years left in my life.
Does that clear things up for you?
