Legendary journalist Bill Moyers says he fears for the nation for the first time in his life

Veteran journalist Bill Moyers said Sunday that for the first time “in my long life” — including the Depression and World War II — he fears for the nation’s survival.

A “society, a democracy, can die of too many lies — and we’re getting close to that terminal moment unless we reverse the obsession with lies that are being fed around the country,” Moyers told Brian Stelter on CNN.

Hope rests in citizens paying careful attention to the televised impeachment hearings beginning this week on Wednesday and Friday in the House, noted Moyers, 85, who served for two years as President Lyndon Johnson’s press secretary.

He has urged PBS to rebroadcast the hearings during prime time so that they more easily be seen by working people.

“Do facts matter anymore?” Moyers asked, referring to the impeachment investigation. “I think they do. I think they mattered in the Watergate hearings, in the Clinton hearings, and I think they’ll matter this time, too.”

Why? So they can be re-watched by the people who already are informed and know what the testimony available to date shows?

The general population in 1974 has 4 local national stations - CBS, ABC, NBC and PBS. There was no internet, no I-phone, no Apps, no Facebook, Instagram or Twitter. There was no widely available pornography - DO NOT THINK THIS IS NOT A MAJOR ISSUE, not to be moralistic or Puritan on everyone, but there is a 99% likelihood of a red state rube in Alabama tuning into some porn and getting drunk than there is of him watching a rebroadcast of what Sean and Rush and company told him was fake all day anyway...

If people do not care that the president is a 2-bit conman and hustler that extorted an ally for political advantage by now, there is no hope for saving this shit hole country.

Our national soul was executed at Sandy Hook. The zombie corpse is all that staggers on...

There aren't as many of them as one may think.

If your concern is that Trump will even make it to the 2020 race, fear not.
There is no way in Hell that every one of the dopes who voted for him in 2016 still stand behind him.
Just speaking for myself, I personally know at least a dozen who've come to see their mistake in voting for Trump.
I don't expect the Gang Of Parasites to convict Trump in the Senate, but these impeachment proceedings are going to damage him greatly in the eyes of the US electorate.

Even if they were forced to watch the hearings, it wouldn't make a bit of difference. In fact, they'd likely dig their heels in to an even greater extent.

I do agree with Moyers when he seemed to suggest that many people don't see the big picture. He was referring to the big picture of what this impeachment is all about, but I'm referring to the bigger picture of what the Republican Party is attempting to do, which is bring about a right wing authoritarian/fascist regime.

This is about more than policy differences. And if this current cast of characters is still in power after 1/20/21, the damage wrought may be irreparable.

which side would the U.S. join?

The side of the Nazi strongman supported by the business interests of Henry Ford, Fred Koch, Prescott Bush, and IBM?

Or the side of the "Godless communists"?

shivved Stalin on June 22, 1941. They'd signed a non-aggression pact in 1939 and carved up Poland & parts of Romania. Russia was sending Germany goods like steel, rubber, and other raw materials right up until Germany invaded them. I think the last train from the USSR arrived in Germany a few days before the invasion.

But I digress. I see your point. I have no faith that we'd be on the right side of that war if today's gop was in power then.
