NFL teams invited Colin Kaepernick to private workout this weekend

(CNN)Free agent Colin Kaepernick, who last played in the NFL for the San Francisco 49ers in January 2017, will take part Saturday in a private workout organized by the league.

The NFL sent a memo Tuesday to its 32 teams, saying the session will include on-field work and interview time with the quarterback, ESPN first reported.

The workout will take place at an undisclosed location in Atlanta, a source with direct knowledge of the arrangement has told CNN. Clubs that don't attend in person will have access to video of the session. The event will be closed to media.

Kaepernick tweeted about the development on Tuesday night.

"I'm just getting word from my representatives that the NFL league office reached out to them about a workout in Atlanta on Saturday," he tweeted. "I've been in shape and ready for this for 3 years, can't wait to see the head coaches and GMs on Saturday."
According to the source, several NFL teams inquired about the athlete-turned-activist's "football readiness" and desire to return to the league.

so happy for Colin.
The league needs quarterbacks and finally they are ready to override 45's direct blackball.

He's too good of a leader and athlete to continue being blackballed but it will take 'special' team ownership (IMO) for someone to take a chance on him.

Sorta reminds me of Ali when he was a conscientious objector and couldnt fight.

Skinny and had shoulder surgery. It's a long shot even without the political baggage.

7. A slight correction. The teams were invited to the workout.

The teams did not invite Kaepernick to the workout. The workout was arranged by the NFL league office, who invited the teams and Kaepernick, thorough his agents.

16. Multiple teams interested in signing Colin Kaepernick

Colin Kaepernick may get a second chance in the NFL after all, but it’s not because of an act of fairness or kindness by the National Football League.

Multiple NFL teams are simply desperate for quality quarterbacks.

The NFL has announced it will hold a private workout with Kaepernick, 32, at an undisclosed location in Atlanta on Saturday, Nov. 16, 2019. Commissioner Roger Goddell stated that all 32 NFL teams have been invited to attend or send emissaries to view the workout.

Despite the fact that 2019 has been a spectacular year for the NFL’s top QBs, it has also been disastrous for multiple teams whose signal-callers are injured and backups have proven to be inadequate.

Moreover, there are the teams whose uninjured starters are producing putrid results that stink in the nostrils of their fans, as in the case of Chicago, Cincinnati, New York, Miami and Tennessee.

That is why multiple teams have reached out to NFL headquarters in New York to inquire about Kaepernick.

9. Kapernick took a principled stand, but he's done as an NFL qb

He can't play anymore. I'm sure the private workout was part of the settlement, but I'd be shocked if it results in a job offer. You can't sit out 2+ years and at age 32 expect to come back.

But they did hire the dog killer Mike Vick and he was treated well, and well received, so u never know

I can hear him now. ... Antonio Brown: "Fuck the NFL, I been blackballed! I demand a private workout with all 32 teams!"

20. ProFootballTalk thinks this isn't actually good news

<...> PFT has confirmed that Kaepernick didn’t even know about the workout until it was scheduled. Kaepernick’s representatives initially expressed concern that it was or could be a P.R. stunt. Confusion also was expressed regarding the league’s reason(s) for setting up the workout, especially since the league previously has taken the position that it does not get involved in the potential employment of specific players.

The league wouldn’t disclose to Kaepernick the motivation for getting involved in the process, and the league wouldn’t budge on its position that the workout will happen this Saturday — rejecting a request to delay the workout to a Tuesday or to a later Saturday, so that interested teams would have more of a chance to make appropriate plans. <...>

Under the present circumstances, then, it feels like this workout is far less about getting Kaepernick placed on a team and far more about creating the impression that the NFL is trying to help him get a job, without really helping him get a job.

I still hope it works out well for him.
