Obamacare early sign-ups plunge as Trump-backed lawsuit challenges constitutionality

Obamacare sign-ups on the federal health insurance marketplace fell 20% in the first two weeks of the 2020 enrollment season compared with last year, according to new federal data released Wednesday.

A total of 932, 049 people in the first nine days of open enrollment chose a plan for the 2020 coverage year on HealthCare.gov, the federal health insurance exchange that serves much of the United States, according to data published by the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services.

That compares with 1,176,232 consumers who selected their coverage through the exchange during the first two weeks, or 10 days, last year, according to federal data released at the time.

More than 680,000 existing customers renewed their coverage on the marketplace, while 244,928 new consumers chose an insurance plan on HealthCare.gov. About 8.5 million people enrolled in Obamacare during last fiscal year.

I was thinking it didn't start until mid-November and there weren't any ads....so glad this is the last year we have to do this! (Hubby and I both turn 65 in 2020)

Starting on January 1 of this year, a lot of people reached Medicare age. There would be no reason for them to re-up on the ACA.

The leading edge of the middle-boomers have hit Medicare age, that happened this year for them. That is a pretty big number of people. Most people that I know gladly choose Medicare over private insurance and the ACA once they become eligible for Medicare.

We are moving into the "peak" period of the baby boom range now (those born in the mid-50s)...
