"Cheryl, Cheryl, Cheryl! Don't fall into the second-hand stuff. Really"

Last edited Thu Nov 14, 2019, 01:14 PM - Edit history (4)

Nancy Pelosi just smacked down a reporter who asked: "Given the Republicans have been arguing that yesterday's witnesses heard things second-hand, I wonder if you think it would be worth waiting for those who have heard things first hand like John Bolton to testify ..."

Pelosi cut her off mid-question:

""Cheryl, Cheryl, Cheryl! Don't fall into the second-hand stuff. Really. That is such a fraudulent proposition put forth by the Republicans. And they know it. I just won't even dignify it. I just won't."

Boom!

26. When a crime is committed by speaking
Thu Nov 14, 2019, 09:28 PM

(which this one is and was - nothing needs to change hands for brbery to be criminal), than anyone who heard those words spoken (or saw them written) is a direct witness, an "eyewitness" if you will, to that crime.

Granted, there are those who need a few more and better brain cells to "get" that.

9. reporter's question resembles Nunes' style from yesterday

Nunes made every question a long testimonial about some aspect of a conspiracy, but framed it so that Ambassador Taylor had to answer, "Correct" or "Yes".

So you testified that you didn't know that x, y, and z conspired to burrow under the south pole and disrupt the conglomerated fluzzelschnorf to unseat President Trump before the election and is that, today, still your testimony?

From the Wiki link above:

"Attkisson resigned from CBS News on March 10, 2014, after 21 years with the network. She later wrote the book Stonewalled, in which she alleged that CBS News failed to give sufficient coverage of Obama controversies, such as the 2012 Benghazi attack."

And if you go to her website, you'll find stories like "Dissenting diplomats are the ones conducting “shadow diplomacy” against Trump"

17. I think her answer epitomizes a problem with Democratic responses.

I don't want to pick on her for this one instance, it may have been a situation where there was no opportunity, too frantic a situation.

But that response just reminds me of that kind of general response from a lot of Democrats.

" I just won't even dignify it. I just won't."

If you don't want to stoop so low as to answer questions like that, and just ASSUME everybody that's anybody KNOWS the Republcans are wrong about what was just said, you are not doing anyone any favours.

It goes beyond answering like that after being confronted like this in person. What's worse is they don't volunteer enough to go in front of cameras to quickly, and angrily, nip in the bud these kinds of fake news stories in a timely manner. They seem to ASSUME the MSM is doing their jobs separating fact from fiction for them.

But yes, I get it, its exasperating to have to deal with such an ignorant and/or purposely obfuscating news media, desperate to even up the horse race, but Democrats have to realize that there are a whole lot of people that could do with a clear explanation/reminder of the facts whenever, and wherever, the opportunity arises, no matter how inconvenient it is at the time. Because the RW media is working overtime to repeat repeat repeat repeat..etc....their talking points, such as... these are second hand witnesses.

Just saying that a non answer will 1. be a missed opportunity to remind the public of the truth, and 2. a refusal to answer will only be turned into a sound bite on Fox News such as "Nancy Pelosi had NO ANSWER and ran out of the room when confronted with a reasonable question about ....."

Too often elected Democrats just ASSUME that most Americans are just as up on the facts and situation, when in reality its only a minority. Democratic voters, that are political junkies enough to go to sites like DU every day to inform themselves.

DO NOT feed the beast - OR the talking point.

It’s bad enough that they have coast-to-coast/north-to-south hate radio pushing against us 24/7/365, and Pox Noise and wannabes like Sinclair Broadcasting covering the visual department like white-on-rice. WE don’t have to help carry their water for them!

We SHOULDN’T help them carry their water for them!

We MUSTN’T help them carry their water for them.

WE should carry OUR OWN water! And places like DU can help encourage the thinking, strategizing, and wordplay. We can build our own slogans and catch-phrases. And then use them - liberally, dammit!
