have a lack of interest. I still care and always think about how these episodes change people’s lives. It is so wrong, yet continues at a steady pace. Thought: Americans choose to live in a gun culture. Why are we surprised or shocked when a mass shooting occurs.

My husband is puttering around today. I usually tell him about these stories. A couple of them have hit close to home in the past.

I have not bothered to talk to him about this today.

I do still care. I am simply becoming weary.

but for the fact that I have a 7-year-old girl and twin 2-year-old boys. Since my daughter started going to school, I have the same sickening thoughts in the back of my head EVERY SINGLE TIME I drop her off: What if? Is her classroom far enough from the gate? Would he have a direct shot at her?

It's beyond depressing and it's enraging to me. My wife is a dual US-Canadian citizen along with our children, and with each one of these, we draw closer to moving up there to educate our children. At least they're not going to be shot at like wild game there.

How fucked up is our society where this is not only happening, but almost becoming so "normal" that it's hardly even noticed anymore? Ugh.

Studies show that the majority of Americans favor universal background checks and stricter gun laws.
We're being held hostage by the NRA Gun Lobby.

cause this problem has been going on for three decades now, and to whatever extent polling shows that people favor common sense gun fire arm regulation, when it comes time to vote they find a reason to keep electing the assholes who keep us frozen in this situation.

As cosmocat said, Americans keep electing politicians who do nothing. It is easy to say, I am for sensible gun control but too difficult to elect people who could make a change. Who thought it would be so hard. No, oftentimes, what people say is different from what they do.

Not surprise or shock though. Just a deep visceral sick feeling in my body because I’ve gone beyond emotional saturation. I feel like my body is reacting to poison, trying to get rid of it. To repulse it.

Meanwhile, thousands of non-violent citizens sit in jail cells for the mere possession of drugs.

I’m not saying that is wrong, but thousands have been murdered with guns—and continue to be murdered daily—and all we ever get from Trump and Republicans is thoughts and prayers. What a sick group of people we have in government.

I grieve to live in a country where things like this persist and I wonder what is wrong with us that we can't stop it.

Also, now is not a good time to talk about gun control.

Things to look for as the store evolves: resource officers, response time, teachers/staff armed?, missed signal, active shooter drills/procedures, etc.

Although as Tiedrich observes, we'll probably forget about this shooting within a few days. so the things I mentioned probably don't matter.

Four people were shot during a practice session for the annual Charity Congressional Baseball Game.

Since then, there hasn't been another shooting during their baseball practice.

They know how to protect their own asses.

But our children keep getting slaughtered.
