That ledger that showed payments to Manafort really pissed Trump off.
The thing is, that ledger is not what they hung Manafort on, since the records of US bank transactions bringing the money in, and using it to directly pay others, was enough to do him in. No evidence from Ukraine was required to convict Manafort.

It caused him to resign and it definitely opened up attention to investigation.
