Remember the Applause That Followed Marie Yovanovitch Out of That Hearing Room
It was a spontaneous outburst of appreciation for honest government and a spontaneous declaration that the country is tired of being used to feed the limitless ego and boundless psychoses of the vulgar talking yam.

Did you notice? This was the week they gave up.
The House Republicans defending the president* against the inquiry into his possible impeachment gave up defending him on the merits, and they gave up on it entirely. All of their complaints centered around the process, even though the process is being conducted according to rules Republicans established when they were hunting snipes over Benghazi. Rep. Elise Stefanik managed, by her constant complaining, to hitch her entire political future to the future of Camp Runamuck. By Friday, confronted by the quiet steel of Marie Yovanovitch, the Republicans on the House Intelligence Committee said more nice things about her than they did about the president*. Even Jim Jordan was polite within his own narrow limits. The lone exception was Rep. Mike Turner, Republican of Texas, who wagged his finger at Yovanovitch and peremptorily told her, "Youre done."
But lets talk about how the day ended. Committee chairman Adam Schiff read the riot act to the administration* and gaveled the meeting to a close. Rep. Mike Conaway, Republican of Texas, began to bellow about how he wanted to speak and then, suddenly, as Yovanovitch got up to leave, the entire room burst into loud applause, drowning out Conaways objections. The ovation followed Yovanovitch out of the room. The Democrats on the committee, not having arrived on turnip trucks, joined in the applause.
If, somehow, the president* is turned out of office, which seems just a bit less unlikely now than it seemed at the beginning of the week, remember that applause. It was a signifying moment for all concerned. It was a spontaneous outburst of appreciation for honest government and a spontaneous declaration that the country is tired of being used to feed the limitless ego and boundless psychoses of the vulgar talking yam who lucked into the most powerful job in the world. Remember when people cheered Marie Yovanovitch, thanking her for her simple desire to do the job she was hired to do.

You don't need to control the voting, just the people counting the votes.
Russian and Republican interference in voting at the polls will be more evident than ever this year.......
We are in a nightmare of watch and observe for the next thirteen months.
someone I know has terminal something or other. She said: "I'm glad I will be gone in the next month or so....
so I don't have to witness what is about to happen."

(12,862 posts)That is an accurate description of this lawless and utterly corrupt POtuS.
Every true patriot wants the rule of law to triumph over the creeping fascism which threatens the very foundations of our republic.
The applause was as much for that as it was for the brave and true patriot as she exited.

(2,690 posts)that it's a crime he doesn't get a wider -- by which I mean national -- audience. He writes so effectively that I'd hate to see hime forced to spend his time preparing for and delivering a TV program (on MSNBC, say, or CNN), but dang, I'd watch it if he were. Maybe a once a week gig on TV so he could devote at least some of his time to writing.
Also, I must reluctantly agree with his observation that the "vulgar talking yam" may yet retain its hold on the Oval Office. Sadly, I worry that the yam will not only survive impeachment -- thanks of course to the base Putin-abettors in the Republican side of the Senate -- but prevail in the 2020 election. The Senate is full of sycophantic Republican cowards, morally and ethically depraved, all too willing to press their lips to the yam's bottom in order to placate a constituency that is either stupid, greedy, or both. And I'm not convinced that there won't be a ground swell of marching morons hitting the re-elect button next November, enough to give Trump another 4 years of free and easy grifting at the taxpayers (including the rare wealthy citizens who actually pay taxes) expense.

(12,448 posts)when I heard and saw that applause. Pierce's take on it is spot on. It was a "thank you" to Marie Yovanovitch for her courage.
