WASHINGTON (AP) President Donald Trump wants the Supreme Court to keep House Democrats from getting his financial records at least until the justices resolve a broader fight over efforts to subpoena a sitting presidents records.
Trump filed an emergency appeal with the court Friday in a case from Washington, D.C., over a subpoena from a House committee for financial records held by Trumps accountants. The request comes a day after he urged the high court to rule that a president cannot be prosecuted or even investigated for crimes while in office.
The Thursday filing involves a subpoena issued by the Manhattan district attorney demanding Trumps tax returns from the same accounting firm.
A temporary order blocking the enforcement of the House subpoena could allow the court to consider the two cases together. The New York dispute is on a fast timetable under which the high court is being asked to render a decision by late June.

(12,712 posts)Somebody has something REALLY big and important to hide at all costs.
The more this progresses, the more it inflates one's speculation as to just how damaging and critical the information that is being protected by way of lawsuits is.
I get the impression that it may be far worse than our usual speculations about his worth, or evasions, etc. Yes, much, much, much worse.
I mean, what is that catch phrase regarding assaults on our basic privacy? Oh, "Well, if you have nothing to hide and you are doing nothing wrong, then why would you be concerned about it?"
Well, Trump obviously has a rather YUGE and BIGLY one he is cloaking and it must be well worth the money and effort to keep it secret. He can't rely on the audit lie to distract people from the glaring problem with his financial records anymore. Is it really THAT devastating? It may well be.

(3,335 posts)He acts like the SCOTUS is his own personal court and I think that they are growing tired of him; particularly since they themselves have standards that they have to live up to. It seems as though a week doesn't go by that Trump isn't running to the SCOTUS for something, and he's acting as if they work for him; they're his court. I think that they are going to shock him real soon, otherwise the next President will want to follow in his footsteps, Trump's bad behavior, since he has thus far received no consequences for his bad and unlawful behavior. I can't believe that the SCOTUS doesn't follow the news and is not aware of his bad, and in many cases, illegal behavior, much of which doesn't end up on a SCOTUS docket. They have to follow the news like the rest of us do, so I'm sure that at some point they would want to send a message for the next president, who tries to follow in his footsteps.
