https://www.politicususa.com/2019/11/12/bolton-trump-turkey.html/amp?__twitter_impression=trueIn a private speech Trumps former national security adviser, John Bolton said that the president made a foreign policy decision in Turkey based on his own business interests.
NBC News reported, Bolton told the gathering of Morgan Stanleys largest hedge fund clients that he was most frustrated with Trump over his handling of Turkey, people who were present said. Noting the broad bipartisan support in Congress to sanction Turkey after President Recep Tayyip Erdogan purchased a Russian missile defense system, Bolton said Trumps resistance to the move was unreasonable, four people present for his speech said. Bolton said he believes there is a personal or business relationship dictating Trumps position on Turkey because none of his advisers are aligned with him on the issue, the people present said.

(4,742 posts)Bolton, while I highly disagree with most of his policy ideas, is a very smart player in DC. He knows full on well that the info he says behind closed doors will be leaked to the press. He knows exactly what he is doing and I would imagine he is both sending a message to Trump directly and also to the rest of the Repukes in Congress.

Bolton said Trump could go full isolationist with the faction of the Republican Party that aligns with (Rand) Pauls foreign policy views taking over the GOP and could withdraw the U.S. from NATO and other international alliances
Bolton is a raging nut, but he did have day-to-day dealings with the mad king, and I believe this bit about Trump's goals. The U.S. withdrawal from NATO would be the ultimate gift to Vladimir Putin as he continues to retake former Soviet territory for his new Russian empire.
