U.S. official who overheard key Trump call added to this week's impeachment testimony schedule
David Holmes, a staffer at the U.S. embassy in Ukraine who overheard a key phone call between Gordon Sondland and President Trump, will testify publicly in the impeachment inquiry Thursday, meaning a whopping nine witnesses will be interviewed in the probe this week.
Democratic leaders announced Holmes addition to the already crammed schedule Monday afternoon, saying he will testify Thursday morning alongside Fiona Hill, Trumps former National Security Council adviser on all things Russia.
William Taylor, the top U.S. diplomat in Ukraine, revealed during his public testimony last week that Holmes overheard a July 26 call on which Trump asked Sondland, his handpicked ambassador to the European Union, about the status of the investigations.
The crucial call came one day after Trump infamously asked Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky over the phone to do him a favor by launching investigations into Joe Biden and other Democrats before the 2020 election.
Following Taylors testimony, Holmes was promptly summoned for a closed-door deposition Friday on Capitol Hill.
