Eric Swalwell debunks Elise Stefanik’s entire defense of Trump in just 15 seconds

Rep. Eric Swalwell (D-CA) on Tuesday quickly took apart Rep. Elise Stefanik’s (R-NY) defense of President Donald Trump during public impeachment hearings.

While questioning Lt. Col. Alexander Vindman, Stefanik made a point of emphasizing delivering military aid to Ukraine requires ensuring that the country is working to root out corruption.

“You testified that you understood that Congress had passed, under the Ukrainian Security Assistance Initiative, a legal obligation to certify that corruption is being addressed?” she asked Vindman.

“That is correct,” he replied.

“So for the public listening, we are not just talking about President Trump focusing on anti-corruption in Ukraine,” she said. “But it is so critical, so important that when hard-earned taxpayer dollars are given to foreign nations that, by law, overwhelmingly bipartisan support requires anti-corruption in Ukraine in order to get U.S. taxpayer-funded aid.”

After Stefanik finished her questioning, Swalwell began by asking Vindman a simple question that directly undermined Stefanik’s argument.

“Isn’t it true that the Department of Defense had certified that the anti-corruption requirements of Ukraine had been met when the hold was put on by the president?” Swalwell asked.

“That is correct,” he replied.

So everyone should just back off and pay attention. Give her all the rope she wants, and hand her a shovel too. Then get out of her way!

what Trump did? Trump took public money and used it for his own, unauthorized, personal reasons. Isn't that embezzlement? And Trump sought something of value from foreign countries! Isn't that emoluments?

And why doesn't anyone bring up the likelihood that Trump and co-conspirators have used the power of the WH many other times with other countries, organizations, and individuals??? We know enough about Russia, SA, Turkey, probably Qatar, maybe others to be openly suspicious that Ukraine is not an isolated incident.

I liked Schiff's demeanor at the end...anger and disgust. That dems and media are using the words bribery and extortion and corruption is important, and hints at the SERIOUS nature of the misconduct. Let's consider embezzlement, emoluments along with those. They don't have to be part of the articles, if not technically appropriate...however that shouldn't stop dem leaders, journalists, and pundits from asking if they shouldn't be used and incorporating them daily into the discussion.

that would be a separate investigation with different witnesses. I do think they should do this.

In my perfect world, when the impeachable offenses are read in the Senate it would take several days to read them all.

all make it into the articles, the context of daily, outrageous, impeachable misconduct is important to establish for everyone. Pretty sure 90% of DU knows most of them but the public does not.
