here are silent now and are not weighing in on options on our successes (and improvement challenges) ?
Guess mission was not accomplished?
True mission should have always been about the ultimate goal - holding MF45 to justice . Whether sooner or later. No?

(25,342 posts)It is unlikely that impeachment will do that unless you have a rather broad interpretation of the word.
The primary goal of impeachment was always going to be political, as it's an inherently political process. The goal is to convince people to vote him out in 2020, because it's highly unlikely that he'll be removed by the Senate or resign.
As for justice, we have to hope that that comes after his presidency, in the form of state charges, etc. The DOJ certainly isn't going to do anything about it now.

(42,641 posts)In my view, too many here seem to ignore the fact that process takes time.
But yes, as you noted, the goal is justice for Trump's many victims.

(42,641 posts)Can it also be simply an election which results in the GOP losing control of the Senate and Presidency as well?

(82,849 posts)That public opinion was a static, fixed number. "We can't impeach! Only 39% in a recent poll said that Trump should be investigated, let alone impeached." Yeah, the poll numbers weren't good. About the only people paying close attention to the political scene were aware of the misconduct and yes, high crimes and misdemeanors, of the administration.
But a funny thing happened as more information kept coming out, more facts were brought forward, and more of the bricks in the denial wall started to crumble: Public opinion changed. It wasn't some fixed quantity like the number of atoms in a mole after all. We're still in the inquiry stage, remember. Schiff's committee is finding evidence and gathering testimony that used to be the job of the Department of Justice until Trump got his tiny little mitts on it. So the early messy phase of the inquiry is happening right out in front of God and everybody. Wait until the House begins a focused investigation of specific charges.

(42,770 posts)It could have happened 7 months ago when the long dismissed Mueller report came out...but so happy at least it is happening now. My point is that those who dissed impeachment never mentioned holding him to justice...

(11,949 posts)Thats what made me favor it. Because I realize impeachment is a political act. And until that point we had no easy to understand, obviously impeachable offense. Admitted in the open and supported by non-partisans.
Did he deserve it prior to that? Of course. But we have to consider the politics of the situation.
Apparently, speaker Pelosi felt the same way. She was strong in her resistance until the Ukraine thing then she moved with Amazing speed.
And impeachment is not the same as holding him to Justice. I doubt the Senate will convict so there will be no change in his status. But what we are finding out now may eventually lead to Justice when he loses in 2020.

I ask no one to support what I am doing, Mr. Green said during the interview. I believe that there are times when you have to stand alone.
