At the minimum trump goes into the history books with an asterisk saying he was impeached. Maybe it will make some vulnerable gop senators squirm a bit before Nov 2020.

I mean they can still impeach him. Impeachment and conviction are 2 different things. Even if the Senate doesn't convict him, he is still impeached and would go down in history as such.

As far as impeaching him a 2nd time after an acquittal, sure it could be done. But I doubt it.

Targeting every GOP Senator and House member in purple districts who fails to vote for removal, with ads featuring Trump's words, salient testimony like the Quid Pro Quo line today and whatever else resonates with the independents who are going to decide the next election. If one of those GOP Senators does vote for removal, the Democrats won't have to worry about them, the Trumpies in their states/districts will try to kneecap them.

This is all about making vulnerable Republicans OWN their support for a clearly corrupt president. I really don't see any way he's removed regardless of what else comes out, but Nancy can make it extremely uncomfortable for the GOP in 2020. At that point it's up to the voters. Either way these hearings are now a win/win for the Democrats IMO.

... loyal to the polls. If this continues, and turtle becomes convinced that an acquittal of the shitstain is electorally fatal, he may move on trump to try and salvage something of the party. He’s gotten his tax cuts and his judges. trump has served much of his purpose. At some point they have to treat the cancer they have given to themselves.

I think there is a greater possibility of removal than I once would have believed.

That way he's gone, and they don't have to suffer the backlash from the Republican base of booting him out.

The Republican party would probably have a worse result in 2020 with somebody other than Trump on the ballot. With him, at least they'll get the base out. If they kick him out and run someone else, the entire base revolts and stays home.

... for them is that it’s looking more and more like he might take a lot of them down with him. Nov 2020 is still a long time away, and the fuckwit just keeps flinging shit on everyone day after day. The higher his negatives go, the more voter turn out for Dems - and the GOP down ticket candidates become endangered. Once McConnell believes that to be the case, trump is done.

The House does the impeachment and the Senate decides the results of it, right?

So, the House looks like it will impeach him so far. That's score one and it means he IS impeached, period.

The Senate will decide the outcome of that, i.e., if he will be removed from office. They decide the "sentence" so to speak.

Right?

Then the senate has a trial based on the indictment and decides whether or not to convict the president which results in his removal. I have no idea what happens after that since we've never made it that far. Nixon resigned and Clinton was acquitted by the senate.

extracting the maximum penalty possible from House and Senate GrOPers in terms of lost seats. That's what the impeachment proceedings must aim at, beyond merely convincing 218 Dems (or 217 plush Amash) to impeach.

They (Repukes) are not going to do the right or honest or principled thing. Anyone paying attention knows this. That is a fucking given, based on prior behavior. We must enable and motivate American voters of any/every party to make the GrOPers pay in November 2020.

around Biden's. Bring it up every time Trump's name is mentioned during the campaign, interviews and at every debate. Keep him on the defensive, off balance and making up BS excuses for his treasonous activities.

Hope John Bolton's tell-all book comes out next September, describing Trump's skulduggery in graphic detail, reminding Republicans what a traitorous scumbag he really is. And who knows what else is likely to come out if Trump's tax returns are released, or Lev, Igor and Rudy flip on him to save their own asses? It'll be fun watching Trump fall apart.
