Trump is calling for a Senate vote ASAP!
This means there is MORE MORE MORE MORE MORE criminality not yet exposed to public view.
They should not determine OUR investigation's direction!!
The more evidence, the more public opinion is moved toward removal from office.
No hurry. NO HURRY.
More witnesses, please!

(1,660 posts)Someone--probably in the group that had lunch at the White House today--will move to dismiss and that will be that.
That's the plan.
IF it happens that way, someone should be removed from the Senate. And I don't mean "wait for the next election" either.
It sickens me that not enough of us is willing to put partisanship aside and follow the LAW for once....

(8,679 posts)A reminder that Clinton' impeachment took five weeks......all for a lie about a personal matter that didn't affect the nation or the U.S. internationally.
Republicans constantly harped that Clinton lied to congress.......HELL, Trump lies to them all day everyday for over three years.
The Republican Party has become the party of complete and un-ending hypocrisy...........

(8,679 posts)I'll bet anyone a hundred bucks on how this will turn out when the Senate Republicans get a hold of it and vote.......
AND when the Senate Republicans vote it down, it will further embolden the Republicans to even greater scandals and corruption.
No matter who wins the Dem primary, for sure we can already guess who will "win" the presidential election.....with a little help from Putin of course.......
**********************************************
This whole massively corrupt Republican Party and Presidency will be remembered in history, but I fear the most memorable will be the day of the election, and the days immediately after the election.......
Either way, if the Dems win, it will be a nightmare of biblical proportions, if Trump wins, it will be cataclysmic......

(23,856 posts)GOP reps succeeded in making the impeachment inquiry proceedings as ugly, divisive, and partisan as they are. they've managed to taint an entire constitutional process. the longer Democrats interact with it, the more of the GOP taint rubs off on them. this was the Republicans' best case scenario, given the facts of the case.
there was never a significant risk of the president being removal by the senate, so all they needed to do was make the proceeding as nasty as possible and let the media work its magic. if Democrats take the bait and draw out the hearings, it only exposes us to more of the same.
Grasswire2

(23,856 posts)looks like support for impeachment nosedived during the public hearings.

for this to have any long-term beneficial impact for us, support really has to be over 50%.

(23,856 posts)our representatives, in the absence of a coherent electoral strategy, are doing the next best they can to honor their oaths of office, and i do appreciate that. maybe i'm overly focused on the end-game of removing Trump from the presidency, which looks like it's getting further and further away.

(18,402 posts)They are immune to everything: to facts, to public opinion, to ethics, and now even to our national security and the safekeeping of our very democracy. Its inconceivable, but its true.
We knew this was the probable outcome from the beginning: the president will be impeached, and then a sham trial in the Republican- controlled Senate will fail to convict him.
Im still very happy that we have done what weve done, for the public, the country, and for history. But unless something extraordinary happens, Im afraid a real trial in the Senate is a pipe dream. I think theres little we can do.

(21,806 posts)The more I see of rethugs in these hearings, the more they remind me of a pack of rabid dogs. Howling and frothing at the mouth. We won't have any control of that in the Senate hearing. I'm wondering if Justice Roberts can/will gavel them down.
They're not interested in facts or criminality, only staying in power. I don't see any, or maybe only a few, crossing over from the Dark Side. If the worst happens, tRump will be crowing about how Dems tried to remove him in this vast plot, and he prevailed. His rallies will be more toxic than they are now. Thinking of the prospects makes me despair for our future.

(82,849 posts)Unless you're a blitheringly ignorant illiterate, you know that the Constitution grants the sole power of impeachment to the House of Representatives. Not Donald Trump. Not Mitch McConnell. Not William Barr. The House. Democratic Representatives should take every public opportunity available to point this out, and keep pointing it out. Tell the American people that, like them, your trust is in the Constitution. Quote Barbara Jordan, if it feels right: "My faith in the Constitution is whole; it is complete; it is total."
Besides, the House hasn't even drawn up, let alone debated or voted on, any articles of impeachment. Is this unseemly rush to get matters before the Senate an admission of guilt? Or is this public exercise of the Constitution hurting a certain political party? Why are Republicans afraid of the Constitution? Are they incapable of carrying out their oath of office? They should resign.
Until then, the House should keep its own counsel, and continue to run as it always has by majority rule.

(2,150 posts)the American people need to be. Convinced without any doubts left.
Trump and his sewer dwellers would like nothing more than to ramrod this thing through with an almost guaranteed acquittal by the senate so they can do their "vindicated" bullshit dance again and pretend it never happened.
The longer this goes on, the more evidence comes out. Keep their noses to the grindstone.
I would not be surprised if Ukraine is just the tip of the iceberg in this mess.

(1,384 posts)From Trump to McConnels super pac. The President, the VP, Secretary of State, Secretary of Energy, the Attorney General and a whole lot of others who work for the aforementioned conspired to either promote the Ukraine conspiracy or cover it up. They should all be banned from participating in our government ever again, at the very least. Jail time for obstruction and lying to Congress. Then there is what happened with Russia in 2016.
I remember how things were swept under the rug after Reagan. Thanks, in no small part, to Barr. People like Elliot Abrams should have never been able to surface again in the guise of public service.

(1,893 posts) The latest national poll from Emerson College finds 45 percent oppose impeaching President Trump, against 43 percent who support it. That's a 6-point swing in support from October, when 48 percent of voters supported impeachment and only 44 percent opposed....
This is the second poll this week to show voters are increasingly likely to oppose impeachment, ....
A Marquette University survey of Wisconsin, a battleground state that Trump turned red in 2016 for the first time in decades, found 40 percent think the president should be impeached and removed, against 53 percent who do not think so....

(26,355 posts)Even if we can't get the GOP to do an about-face, go to the White House, and tell him they can't cover his ass anymore like they did with Nixon, we can make sure that if they decide to just lockstep it and acquit, that they'll make complete asses of themselves and utterly discredit the GOP for three generations.
