Politico: Vulnerable Democrats spooked by GOP impeachment ad onslaught

[link:https://www.politico.com/news/2019/11/22/democrats-house-impeachment-moderates-072972|

Dems want the party to step up its defense.

By SARAH FERRIS and ALLY MUTNICK 11/22/2019 06:25 PM EST

Vulnerable Democrats are watching in horror as GOP impeachment attacks deluge their districts back home. And they want a much stronger counteroffensive from their own party and its allies.

Some of those Democrats raised their concerns with party leaders this week as they prepared to leave for Thanksgiving recess, fearing that voters will be bombarded by anti-impeachment ads as families gather around the TV for parades and football, according to multiple lawmakers and aides.

GOP-aligned outside groups have spent roughly $8 million on TV spots this cycle in battleground districts, such as Rep. Anthony Brindisi's central New York seat. The vast majority of those ads specifically hammer Democrats over impeachment.

Meanwhile, swing-district Democrats are receiving little reinforcement from their own party or even other liberal coalitions. Democratic and pro-impeachment groups have spent about $2.7 million in TV ads, according to an analysis of spending by the ad tracking firm Advertising Analytics. And more than $600,000 of that total went to ads targeting Republican incumbents, not helping vulnerable Democratic members.

I read the whole thing. They are not spooked.

Then there's the big spending by Trump’s reelection team, which announced $10 million in spending on television and digital ads just days after House Democrats formally declared their impeachment inquiry in September.
Asked about the largely unanswered onslaught of GOP attack ads, most Democratic moderates publicly dismiss concerns with the party’s strategy.

“That’s probably something for the pundits to decide. I’m just focused on doing the right thing and voting for the district,” Cunningham said in an interview. “People in the First District are smart and they can sift through the fiction and get to the facts and when they do they realize that I’m the most bipartisan freshman Democrat.”

McAdams, another swing-district Democrat who’s being targeted by ads, said he’s working to counter the GOP ads with his own direct pitches to voters in events like town halls.

“They’re negative but you know, I’m out there in person telling my district the work that I’m doing and they know me,” McAdams said. “They’re going to judge me based on who I am and my track record and I think I have a track record that resonates.”

Democratic officials and strategists are debating how best to defend their incumbents that are crucial to keeping the House majority as the impeachment furor consumes Capitol Hill.

Politico's article seems unfair and unbalanced. Or at least there headline. After reading the whole article I see no such thing. They are not spooked at all.

...I only use the link, writers, time published and first four paragraphs from the writers in the order they were published.

The writers and publishers deserve to be noted. Good, Bad or Indifferent.

And to be clear I did not provide the information. My (rare) comments in a OP are clearly seen as my own comments, by the readers.

I don't always post the first four paragraphs. I get to the meat of the thing and go to the pertinent facts.

There is no rule that it has to be the first four paragraphs.

Fact. Democrats are Not Spooked.

PS, Joe.
It's important to me that I use the words published in the article

I too posted their exact words published in the article,

The writers and publishers deserve to be noted. Good, Bad or Indifferent.

Of course they do and they were so noted on the paragraphs I posted.

It is still the authors words.

Also, if "Most never bother to read the article"...

Then they may not read anymore than a paragraph or so, when we write ourselves.

Have you not watched them? Have you missed them all. Did you miss the statement that Eric Swalwell read into the notes at the hearing so it would be on record? He read that Nunes met with the Indicted Parnas, Rudi's buddy to dig up dirt on Biden.

Eric Swalwell Drops The Hammer On Devin Nunes

Rep. Swalwell went there: He introduced an article that publicly discloses Devin Nunes' shady "investigative work" with an indicted Rudy Giuliani associate into the impeachment record.

Late Wednesday night the Daily Beast dropped some insane news about Devin Nunes' shady dealings with Lev Parnas and some secret investigations HE was conducting on his own in 2018 which were not publicly disclosed. Lev Parnas' lawyer told the Daily Beast that Lev "arrange[d] meetings and calls in Europe" for Nunes and his aide, Derek Harvey. They were supposedly to help his "investigative work."

The Daily Beast reviewed records showing that Nunes went to Europe from November 30th through December 3rd of 2018. He brought 3 aides as well and the cost for this previously unknown trip was over 63,000 taxpayer dollars. Nunes has been one of Donald Trump's most fervent lapdogs, frequently suspected of leaking sensitive information to the White House that he was able to garner from closed door and classified hearings. This investigative travel only adds further possible proof that Nunes was trying to investigate conspiracy theories that would support Trump's views about a myriad of issues, including that Ukraine meddled in the 2016 election.
