President Donald Trump's criticisms of NATO have been one of the most concerning elements of his presidency to date for career diplomats and Pentagon officials.

A new book written by an anonymous White House insider published this week has shed further light on the president's aversion to the Cold War-era alliance, alleging Trump claimed the U.S. is "getting raped" by its allies and pushed to ditch the accord.

A Warning, by Anonymous, was published earlier this week. It is written by the same unnamed White House official who authored an op-ed for The New York Times last year, claiming to be part of "the resistance" against Trump within his own administration, working to frustrate much of the president's policy agenda.

A portion of the book is dedicated to Trump's belligerent stance on NATO. Since coming into office, the president has repeatedly maligned the alliance and its members, accusing members of not spending enough on joint defense and suggesting the transatlantic bloc is no longer fit for purpose.

It appears that Trump's policy is to weaken our alliances, isolate the USA and make us more vulnerable. Putin appears to be playing the USA like a chess piece through Trump and Co.

Considering that Russia is playing a side game here, what do we hear about China and its non-stop attempts to be THE major superpower on all fronts in a short period of time? China is not just about trade, but that aspect of it tends to dominate the news. China is currently creating a technological power block that would prove to be a formidable opponent to our current stronghold on AI and tech development. In fact, if there is no negotiation or interchange between the US and Chinese blocks, a new kind of cold war will develop and China has potential to be on the winning side of that as a dominant player.

I mean, both Russia and China are not in the kind of bind that Trump is putting us in. We should be all out preparing for the major, global shift that is impending. Instead, there are several wedge issues that Trump puts emphasis on that are of a far lower priority as far as our most critical needs are concerned right now, both at home and abroad.
