(17,862 posts)with short commute times to work (from office to desk in under 12 minutes). In fact the commute is so short, my wife takes me to work and the dogs ride along for a morning treat. It allows us to effectively have one car (my daughter drives my car to work and I try to walk most places I go).
But I paid a lot a $ to be able to live close.

(146,248 posts)I grew up in Southern California, and have driven that highway since 1962. In fact, I remember when it didn't exist. they keep widening it, adding a lane or two, and it chokes up as soon as they open the new lanes.
These days, I only drive it when I'm visiting in CA. Since it's how you get out of LAX airport, going where I'm going. Horrible freeway. Miserable at any time of day. Impassible during rush hour.

Of course its a miserable time to be up.

Or you are in rush hour traffic in both directions, thinking people should trade houses to live nearer where they work.
