IMO it's worse to knowingly perpetuate a lie than to be sincerely mistaken; there's no chance they are "mistaken"; they are lying and aware of the fact they are lying. They are lying to save their jobs and their party, which is shrinking and dying.

Except they're sworn representatives, and are violating their oaths in defrauding the American people.
