The world media is not covering the scope of the Australian fires..25 times the size of calif fires

Australia’s fires more than 25 times the size of the California fires & more than 3 times the size of the Amazon fires & still burning out of control... major fires now only an hour’s drive from Sydney.
The world media is not covering the scope of this...

Thousands of koalas are feared to have died in a wildfire-ravaged area north of Sydney, further diminishing Australia's iconic marsupial, while the fire danger increased in the country’s east as temperatures soared

to be outside the country. I know we have an idiot in the US in the WH, and I don't mean Ivanca, but damn, to leave your country-folk in their hours of need... Those wankers of national level prestige sure got balls of steel and mind like a shut steel trap is I ever heard of one. Nothing like telling your own citizens to FO&D.

They either :

A) concurred with the conclusions of the video (that the amount EVs pollute is highly dependent on how "clean" the electricity is used to charge it)

B) were more concerned about the total cost/benefit to a particular state or dealt with pollutants other than CO2, or

C) were written by someone for the Manhattan Institute, a proponent of fracking (the Politico article).

Electric vehicles charged with renewable energy produce way less carbon dioxide than a gas car. Even most of the articles you cite admit as much.

Think tanks backed by oil companies have been pushing anti-EV crap for a while now and I'm sure you can find papers they've produced that introduce just enough FUD to keep someone who just glances at the topic confused; i.e. "right wing talking points".

I am quite aware of the pollution from the batteries, the costs to make or buy them. And the draw backs.

and there's a thing called "Do Nothing Democrats" on the loose.

While I engage in sarcasm, I'm well aware of so-called stealth marketing and astroturfing that tries to maintain status quo revenue streams. See, e.g., cigarettes endorsed by doctors in the past.

You have hit the nail on the head.

To me, it's an effin' obscenity, while the country burns, to be shooting off shows of fire and sparks. Only a couple of hours here until midnight and all is quiet. Hope it stays that way.

I've seen the story covered widely in both U.S. and European media. At least some of them have explained that the New Year fireworks in Sydney have been planned for quite some time and the money for them has already been spent. I don't know if the fireworks could be saved for next year's show.

But a little perspective. Australia is a nation and a Continent. Not a State here in the US. It’s probably more logical to compare the USA total wildfire burned acreage in 2019 (about 4.63 million acres) to Australia’s 2019 burn area (about 12 million acres). So Australia burns are actually about 2.6 times the burned acres in the USA in 2019. Comparing simply to California overstates the relative problem by almost 1000%.

Australia on the other hand is only about 80% of the USA’s size land area wise, so it’s probably more accurate to say that the Australia: CA ratio overstates the relativr problem by 800%. Not to mention the comparison looks as 2019 only. 3019 is not representative of either nation’s averages.

Not trying to say that the rising intensity and scope of wildfires is not a serious issue, just trying to put it in correct perspective.
