The events of the last three years have had to be played out on stage for everyone to see and make up their mind about.

It is excruciating for those who are plugged in and know what has been going on, but when you are talking about the electorate at large, if they see finger pointing and accusations - which is how this would come across - it is a huge turnoff.

I agree that all of the cliffhanger drama has been unnecessary as a matter of substance, but you can't just tell people what to think, they have to see it for themselves.

I'm positive he will amp it up even more when the GE campaign begins.

I suspect he will try to focus more on what he feels are his economic accomplishments rather than trying to speculatively blame the GOP for weakening the economic recovery (though I'm sure a case could be made that things could have been better in some respects without so much GOP obstructionism). The GOP is going to try and run on the premise that Obama promised that things would be better faster though he never promised any such miracles (it will be mostly just talking out of their asses, of course). No sane person would have promised sunshine, lollipops, and rainbows within 2-3 years when dealing with a horrendous mess left by the last (mis-)administration and Obama surely didn't. As for his contention that he didn't know just how bad it was, I'm actually pretty sure that there are still undoubtedly turds leftover from Bush's (p)residency that are still just waiting to be discovered.

address scheduled?

IMO, based on the President's new Teddy-Roosevelt-esque political strategy, he will spend much of the speech contrasting two fundamentally different approaches to governing. He'll make Eric Cantor squirm in his seat once again with in-your-face example after example of how one party has held economic recovery back with the absurd notion that an economic downturn is the time to focus on deficit reduction. He'll push his plans to balance the budget in the long run after government action has set in motion immediate job creation and education and infrastructure to "win the future".
