The afflicted has probably shook hands, handled money, shared a steering wheel, grabbed a shared doorknob, flushed a few toilets...and they've been doing the same during the last 10 days to 3 weeks.

By the time you are REALLY sick, you have infected everyone around you.

And then, you remain sick for a long time.

The flu hits fast and hard. If it's going to kill you, it's pretty quick.
But at least you get yourself to the doctor much more quickly.

there was nothing a doctor could do. The Viral vs. the Bacterial thing. I guess people get so sick it doesn't matter, but then they say not everyone gets that sick. There must be carriers too, that don't get sick. I just don't get how they figure the numbers and statistics, with so much certainty.

And yes, the flu and the coronavirus present differently in different patients. It depends on where the virus attacks.

My father in law got the flu just before Christmas this year and the virus attacked his heart and he almost died.

Now he has a heart that works at 30%.

When they say "X confirmed cases" they mean X people have tested positive for the virus. That's the number they know with certainty. There's no way to know how many people may be infected who haven't been tested.

from an infected region? I'm thinking this is where the surfaces issue kicks in. How long does the virus live on surfaces??

Something is missing here. The stated means of transmission isn't adding up. If it's transmitted like a common cold, I wouldn't be worried because I haven't had a cold in years.

still very preliminary about the hows and wheres of transmission.

Try to stay calm and watch for results.
