Because we have brain-dead leaders, we have to figure out stuff for ourselves.
So, here is a link to an interesting article about possibilities to explain why this virus seems to be reappearing in patients who have been cleared and released:
https://www.nytimes.com/reuters/2020/02/28/world/asia/28reuters-china-health-reinfection-explainer.html
They are talking about the possibility of the virus being "biphasic," meaning it lies dormant before causing new symptoms.
They also refer to the virus as SARS-CoV-2. A little detail of interest to me.

(7,272 posts)SARS-CoV-2 = the virus itself
Covid-19 = the illness caused by the virus

(6,453 posts)Interesting that they have called it SARS. I do not remember what SARS exactly stands for, other than being the SARS flu. Have to look that up. SARS type 2 ??

(16,366 posts)Are they testing for antibody titers, which would be present in anyone who had had the virus, or titer load?

(6,453 posts)It seems like they are identifying any high risk patient, quarantining them for two weeks, and then if they have no symptoms, releasing them. If they have actual symptoms and are hospitalized, they support them, and then release them after they are free of symptoms.
Isn't that what they are doing? What is in the testing kits? Anyone know?
All I see China doing is separating out anyone who has a fever. And I haven't heard of how they are doing the follow up. How can it be by titer if they release a person and then they discover the person positive again and put them in the hospital? What is the length of the follow up period?
If they don't have anything in their toolbox to treat this virus, only supportive care, then how did they decide these numbers?
Hey, PENCE! What do you know about this?

(33,992 posts)It appears to drop so low that it is undetectable, then pop back up.
There were earlier reports of it having HIV-like qualities - which is consistent with this report. I've seen this report (or similar ones over the past week or two).
