Boris Johnson reveals 'hard bargain' plans in push for US trade deal

Boris Johnson has pledged to "drive a hard bargain" as the UK outlined its negotiating objectives for a free trade deal in upcoming talks with the US.

The Government said it wants to open up opportunities for British businesses and investors as well as ensuring the NHS is not for sale.

The PM was pushed on keeping the NHS universal and free at the point of use during the general election and the Government has said it remains committed to doing so.

The British negotiating team also wants to guarantee high standards and protections for British consumers and workers, including on animal welfare.
