Employer mandatory travel ban

Dh’s company issued a 30 day travel ban for its employees today. They’re a large company with office all across the country as well as international offices. His local office only has about 500 employees; it’s one of 6 in the PNW. Publicly traded company.

All conference travel cancelled (totally agree that’s a good thing!) and all client travel cancelled unless absolutely critical and it sounds like it’d take several layers of management to determine the travel is critical. Next week he was supposed to spend two days in a nearby state, meeting with clients and regulators about an ongoing project. Now he won’t be going.

My job takes me to remote clients. No travel means no income.

It's not even warranted at this point. Well, no more so than a company telling all of it's local employees to stay home.

It would be more effective to train employees how to take precautions, give them travel kits, and frequent health monitoring.

These knee jerk reactions will do more harm than good.

My company has about 400,000 employees, no travel ban yet, but heavily restricted to several countries. i would say that travel is being reduced everywhere by about 50%.

My close friend had a family reunion in Italy that has been cancelled.

This is going to be a slow burden on the economy. Travel related industries are going to suffer. And the supply chain is going to be harmed with all of this too even if this is as bad as it gets.

Also interesting - if an employee here has come into contact with someone who traveled internationally over the last two weeks then they have to stay out of the office for two weeks at least. This is almost the entire company as many travel back and forth between the Japanese and US headquarters frequently. This is huge company and almost all of the workers will be staying home as of tomorrow
