(6,110 posts)the 2 dogs I had for over 31 years, I can't remember a single incidence of them coughing, runny nose, or any other typical cold symptoms.

(6,110 posts)Because both our Lhasa Apso dogs never ever visited a Vet! Only time they got any shots was if the kennels where they were born administered them. The dogs were not allowed to mingle with other dogs. The Backyard was their only domain. One reason they never got sick (my theory) in all those years may be because I brushed their teeth every day. The germs in gums and mouth are the same germs which attack their kidney & heart. Having the vet clean them every 6 months is not enough. Can you imagine how bad our teeth and gums would be if we never brushed and flossed and had only the dental hygienist clean them every 6 months. Both died around age 15 due to old age.
