Have watched every night for many years. He's not perfect but there is NO ONE with a bigger wealth if history. NO ONE.

This totally sucks. No one with an iota of his depth and gravitas.

I posted in another thread:

I'm sure a lot of DUers will be celebrating, but I for one, will miss this legend who has so much history to share.

I've watched and listened to Chris for a good part of my life. I haven't always agreed with him. Truly, he is one of a kind, and he ALWAYS spoke HIS truth.

So, congrats to those of you who like the cookie cutter, always politically correct over someone who has a soul, and more knowledge than most of us will ever know. Congrats and fuck you to the "tweety" haters. Your disrespect has been duly noted.

I. AM. CRUSHED.

Faced severe headwind here but always tried to defend him.

No one else with his depth of knowledge and experience.

I am heartbroken too!

and I agree he had much to share. No celebration in my heart that he is gone. Your third paragraph sums up my feelings.

Yes he has said many things to women on camera that made me cringe but I am going to miss his analysis of current events.

and intellectual curiosity.

Very few of these talking heads have that quality - they are usually rigidly progressive or conservative.

Chris was just a guy from Philly and never pretended to be perfect - sucks he was tossed out this way without a proper sendoff.

intellectualism Mixed day for sure. Seeing Any and Beto and Pete speak so eloquently, from their hearts was fantastic. MSNBC caving on the opposite end.

Nobody could do more with fewer words. Nobody could ask the question they were least prepared for. Nobody could make the astute historical references that weren't obvious.

I loved his references to his Republican brother because his brother and others enabled him to understand how that side thinks. That aspect is sadly missing with so many hosts on MSNBC. They make assumptions and proclamations that don't represent the real world at all. There is nothing more boring than cheerleader politics.

This was like a Woody Hayes situation because you could almost see it coming. But unlike Hayes I think Chris Matthews will resurface somewhere and make further great contributions.

When I lived in Las Vegas early 2000s in particular I often would be home watching Hardball and not paying attention to my sports wagers. That's how big that show was at one point, how enlightening. I remember my parents visiting me from Florida and my dad always wanted to structure the day so we could watch the show together.
