ARTICLE ABOUT CHRIS MATTHEWS QUITTING. posted just 6 minutes ago

~~~~~> MATTHEWS IS NOT EVEN DOING HIS SHOW. JUST SAID... "IM GONE" AND THAT WAS IT.
ge gave a vague explanation and then left.
The 'Hardball' host made the shock announcement on Monday night, after more than 20 years at the network.
MSNBC host Chris Matthews announced his retirement from the network on Monday night after more than 20 years at the left-leaning cable channel.
He will be replaced at 7 p.m. by a rotating group of hosts.
While Matthews was expected to retire in the near future, the sudden announcement comes amid of a series of recent flaps and controversies.
Last Monday, Matthews apologized to Bernie Sanders for comparing his rise in the 2020 campaign to the German invasion of France.
"Let me start with my headline tonight: "I'm retiring," Matthews said. "This is the last Hardball on MSNBC, and obviously this isn't for lack of interest in politics. As you can tell, I've loved every minute of my 20 years as host of Hardball."
Matthews signed off after his initial announcement and was replaced on Monday's show by Steve Kornacki.
"Chris Matthews is a giant, he's a legend," Kornacki said. "it's an honor for me to work with him, to sit in for him on occasion. I think you're going to miss him, and I know I'm going to." https://www.hollywoodreporter.com/news/chris-matthews-retire-msnbc-1282226
I know all the dumbass things he’s said, but I had a certain affection for the joy and hate to see such a long career end like this.
Political columnist accuses MSNBC host Chris Matthews of making suggestive comments to her before she went on his show
My guess is that he was offered a deal: Retire now, or get fired.
In 2017, I wrote about a cable news host being gross and inappropriate with me. I was afraid to name him at the time. I'm not anymore; it was Chris Matthews! And his sexist exchange with Warren this week inspired me to revisit those moments and name him
13. That's it? I've had worse things said to me at the grocery store. Come on.
It must be something more than that.
Maybe that's not why. Or maybe it's part of why.
And, just because you've had worse things said to you at the grocery, doesn't make it not harassment and not demeaning.
Edit: here's the statement - he does mention the comments to women, so I'd say that's part, but not the entire reason he's retired.
9. Matthews was living in a nostalgic world and the real world left him behind
Whenever he mentioned his time as a staffer to Tip O'Neill I would roll my eyes. The time of the Tip O'Neill's of the world is gone and you have to move forward with what is in front of you, otherwise you sound stupid. Matthews had his moments, but they were few and far between. He seemed to revel in the largess of the Washington political machine of the 1980's and it was often sad because he seemed out of place on his own show.
Kornacki says that he is a "giant, a legend" perhaps, in the bubble that is what is called "beltway media". There will be praise from everywhere. Rachel will say something nice, Lawrence will talk about the "hole left" by his departure, but as others here have said, it is not really a loss in this current climate. We need journalists and pundits that see things as they are, and that don't play this game of pomp and circumstance while the norms and institutions of this society continue to be eroded.
