Chris Matthews announcing his retirement sounds really pissy...

Here's Chris Matthews announcing his retirement during the intro to
@hardball
. It was a pretty low-key announcement considering what happened next (he didn't even finish out the show, and apparently didn't give anyone time to prepare to fill the rest of the hour).

20th Century men in the 21st Century should not get to that pissed off when they choose not to move with the times and get pushed out cause they are misogynistic old dinosaurs...

The world revolves around him and he made sure everyone knew it as he exited the show. It is truly unfortunate that this didn’t occur some 19 years and 11 months ago.

Thankfully he is now gone.

Perhaps MSNBC won't tolerate anybody messing with their horse races. Bad for ratings

Stories of Matthews' behavior have been circulating for months. Then big stupid words fell from his big stupid mouth hole and enough people got upset about it to warrant the erasure of his bloviating oversized cranium from our precious airwaves.

Fuck him. Good riddance.

Matthews was always obnoxious and self-centered. He'd ask a guest a question and before the guest could finish their thought, Mathews was interrupting them and trying to steer their comments in the direction of his spin.

Good riddance, I say.

By the way, I think there are several other blowhards on TV that should get the same treatment.

ETA: Consider the departure of some of the giants of broadcast journalism such as Walter Cronkite or Peter Jennings. Thy went out with style and class unlike loud-mouth Matthews. He was nowhere near their level of professionalism.

the day before and it probably let loose a floodgate of other complaints and he had to go before he got publicly humiliated.

And more today.

When there is more complaining about the host of a show than commentary about the issues discussed, it is time for the host to go. I am sad to see someone with the depth of history and knowledge that Chris Matthews has leave the public sphere, but he got so irritating I could not watch him anymore. I hope MSNBC gets someone better in that slot.

He took responsibility for comments that he said "weren't ok and were never ok"... and he said young people were improving the workplace. Maybe he should have finished the show, but I don't see what was wrong with his comments.

but the timing.

These words should have been delivered (aside from the fact he should have never said what he did in the first place) long ago, not as a goodbye.
