(28,290 posts)People were on vacation and had no idea. On top of it, a Republican who hated Crawley pulled a 🐀🔩 for her. Even so, she only got 16,000 votes - a meager turnout. Her constituency was so pissed, Cuomo beat Cynthia Nixon in that district by 10% more than the rest of the NYC.

(19,953 posts)office election, which meant the turnout was very low. There wasn't a primary in at least 2016. There were very similar parallels to when Ted Cruz won his primary run off, in it being a low turnout primary, not linked to other election races. Quite fortuitous for AOC, and something where Crowley had taken his eye off the ball.
