BREAKING: Medical screener at LAX airport tests positive for coronavirus

WASHINGTON — A medical professional who conducted passenger screenings at Los Angeles International Airport tested positive for the coronavirus late Tuesday night, according to the Department of Homeland Security and an internal email obtained by NBC News.

The person last worked screening air travelers for illness on Feb. 21, the DHS said in a statement, which also said the medical professional had worn the proper protective gear while working. The internal email described the person as a "contract medical screener" for the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention.

The email also said "these screeners are predominantly assigned to the CDC in-transit lounge and a few support jetway screening on direct flights from China."

Said they did very little screening. Just asked him a. Few questions and he could move on.

If they were wearing proper safety gear, that’s most likely the case.

Which opens up a whole new set of questions.

5. If they wore "proper protective gear while working," it was apparently not adequate.

Seems to me anything short of one of those CDC moonsuits isn't going to protect you, and I doubt the airport screeners wore that.

7. My son came through LAX February 20th

I told him to contact a doctor at the first sign of anything respiratory. So far he’s fine.

9. I'm sure you've worn your fingers down counting the days since Feb.20,

but it seems he's reached the 14-day period with no symptoms, so he should be fine, and you can relax!
