Could The Boston Marathon Be The Next Victim Of Coronavirus?

Noting the disruption to other sporting events, Boston Mayor Marty Walsh has said that the city is closely monitoring the spread of COVID-19. For now, the Boston Marathon is still scheduled to go ahead as planned, but sports reporter Trenni Kusnierek said that there is reason for officials to be concerned about the spread of germs given the variety of events that take place in addition to the race.

“So, you also have the expo...at the Hynes Convention Center, you have pasta dinners, you have post race parties, you have a 5K on Saturday, you have the one mile races that you hold,” Kusnierek said during an interview with Boston Public Radio on Wednesday. “These are all valid concerns.”

The runners come from all over the world.

The Boston Marathon includes 26.2 miles, 34 elite athletes, 30,000 runners, 87 countries, 1 million spectators and $830,500 in prize money.

The Marathon Association is working closely with the CDC and Federal Government. I frankly do not trust a word any of them say, as I listen to Pence lie as I type.

I fear the decision to move forward will be due to the financial loss and not the well being of the rest of us.

I just don't know.

Don't go anywhere, do anything, buy anything, eat anything, or drink anything and we will all be safer next week. Life will resume!

I guess they have some time left to pull the plug. It does suck for people putting in all that training, but it probably won't happen. I trust the city of Boston, and more importantly the surrounding hospitals to make the right call.
