Trump disputes coronavirus mortality rate based on his hunch
Trump believes the stated mortality rate of the coronavirus is inflated, a conclusion he has come to based on his own assessment.
I think the 3.4 percent is really a false number. This is really my hunch, Trump told Fox Newss Sean Hannity. Personally, I would say the number is way under 1 percent, the president added."

(13,577 posts)The total number of cases is certainly higher than those that are known at this time. It's estimated that the virus has been here since at least January and the health department has said that, especially in younger people, many would have just recovered on their own not unlike a cold or the flu. This is common in the early stages of an epidemic. As time goes on and more people are tested, the denominator of the mortality rate will go higher and, thus, the actual mortality rate will become more accurate and usually become much lower. This pattern has been consistent in previous epidemics too.
Based on the tests done so far, the mortality rate for younger people is likely to be under (perhaps well under) 1% but higher in older people or those with other complicating medical conditions.

I wonder how even Hannity can manage to keep a straight face around this guy.

(9,313 posts)I can see why he would be in denial about the data.
The absurdity of the notion that he can "reassure" the nation by telling us about his "hunches" is beyond words.

(621 posts)That gives him an even higher chance of not surviving. Of course, he does have the best health care that WE can buy him, so that may offset the poor health lifestyle. If the reports of his drug use are true, those drugs crush your natural immune system. If he were smart, hed be hiding alone in the White House, riding it out using Twitter, calling FOX each day, doing televised or radio fireside chats. IF he were smart. Darwinism.

(18,968 posts)Know this, he doesn't care one bit about people getting sick and dying, he cares about his re-election.
That's why he said, "People with it are going to work and getting better." If this causes people to miss work, he knows it will hurt the economy.

(58,589 posts)he's probably not wrong. The number from WHO is an average, and the lethality rate varies widely from country to country.
It will most likely be much lower than that here in America once folks get around Trump's gaslighting and really get to work on this.
But stil, Trump should shut the fuck up. He's doing more harm than good.
