Supreme Court Justice John Roberts' rebuke of Chuck Schumer over remarks he made at an abortion rights rally risked hurting "the notion of judicial independence" and "public faith" in America's top court, two senior lawyers have said.

The Obama-era U.S. attorney for the Northern District of Alabama, Joyce Vance said Chief Justice Roberts' comments released in a Wednesday statement risked damaging public faith in the Supreme Court's neutrality.

Gibson Dunn Partner Ted Boutrous added that Roberts should have "repudiated" President Donald Trump's attacks on Supreme Court Justices Sonia Sotomayor and Ruth Ginsburg last week, suggesting his failure to do so while blasting Schumer brought the court's impartiality into question.

Sotomayor sounded the alarm last week... if she is breaking silence to alert the public of a biased SCOTUS then there is an obvious bias in the chambers. I bet the boofer has been harassing the women on the bench and probably their aids.

Here's what she said in dissent of the “wealth test” for legal immigrants. :

“Today’s decision follows a now-familiar pattern,” Sotomayor began. “The Government seeks emergency relief from this Court, asking it to grant a stay where two lower courts have not. The Government insists—even though review in a court of appeals is imminent—that it will suffer irreparable harm if this Court does not grant a stay. And the Court yields.”

“This Court is partly to blame for the breakdown in the appellate process,” Sotomayor, an Obama appointee, wrote. “That is because the Court—in this case, the New York cases, and many others—has been all too quick to grant the Government’s 'reflexiv[e]' requests. But make no mistake: Such a shift in the Court’s own behavior comes at a cost.”

Seems tame to me, Roberts should just ignore this and whatever Schumer says.

CJ Roberts did NOTHING in defense of Sotomayor and Ginsberg when Trump singled them out. He sat on his hands.

He has allowed Trump to politicize the Supreme Court.

How do you feel about it when a high government official names justices on your court and says they should recuse themselves from all cases having to do with his branch of the federal government? Does that damage the public faith in your court's neutrality? If so, have you been in a coma for the last month? If not, then why are you all bent out of shape about the Senate Minority Leader quoting one of your associate justices?

Any time that happens... we have to at least consider that the underlying behavior (Schumer’s) was the real problem.

These remarks by @SenSchumer were inexcusable. Chief Justice Roberts was right to call him on his comments. I hope the Senator, whom I’ve long admired and consider a friend, apologizes and takes back his implicit threat. It’s beneath him and his office.

It’s clear that Schumer intended to say something else... but there’s no spinning this. What’s he said may not be what he intended to say... but it is what he said. And that was entirely out of bounds.

Dem administration. Pressure will have to be put on Biden, however, because he has said he is not in favor of expanding the court.
