Up over the coronavirus.
Homeless population already know we are in the line of fire when it goes spreading. We already are suffering if we have the sniffles.
We can't afford anything to disinfect with. Many are being turned away from shelters if seem sick.

(12,712 posts)I already realize that tent life is really going to be a determining factor for me if I contract it having had the flu last Winter and just slogging through it.
There is no way that people who live in a tent or car are going to be able to self-quarantine either without their own bathroom, kitchen, running water, etc. There are so many factors that are not in our favor that it's ridiculous and I expect a much higher mortality rate for we homeless folks, especially ancient ones like me.

I have been able to do that so far. It's just the annoyance of the virus now that bugs me circumstantially I will remain calm though.

(9,715 posts)Just a little money. Isopropyl alcohol straight outta the bottle works. Its the main ingredient in hand sanitizer aloe vera gel is added to treat your hands nicely, soft and smooth.
My hands gave that up at around 5 years of age.
If you can get the 91% kind. 70% is most common.
I bought mine at Walmart, plus they have 2oz. empty spray bottles for a buck. Easy to fill and keep in pocket.
For under 3 dollars you have hand sanitizer.

(10,749 posts)We're in an area that so far hasn't had any cases. The nearest is about 100 miles away.
But you're right about the sniffles. Almost everyone is ailing in some way, some with the remnants of pneumonia, some with seasonal colds, and some with chronic ailments. And in close quarters, if one gets sick, everyone else will be sick, or sick-ish, pretty quickly. Solutions? Purell, I guess, but that's about it. I haven't seen any reporting about COVID-19 spreading in homeless communities. Yet.
So far no one's been turned away for being sick. That could change if cases turn up closer to us.
