The current messaging about COVID-19 in my inbox today: flu and corona...get a flu shot

From USA Swimming, our school district, and my employer: get a flu shot because it is respiratory disease season and we need to get immunized due to the flu (and corona). All three mention it in the same sentence without actually SAYING it will help. It is a sentence directly lifted from CDC messaging, making it look like the 2 viruses are just seasonal, they are similar, and nothing to see here folks.

I've called both of my Senators and my Congress Critter to DO SOMETHING constructive!

1. Yes, get a flu shot so you aren't as likely to get the flu.

If you are over 65 get the pneumococcal pneumonia shot to guard against bacterial pneumonia.

Neither of these vaccinations will prevent you from getting COVID-19, but get them anyhow so at least you will have two fewer diseases to worry about. Flu is still going around and any kind of pneumonia is always a danger for older people.

7. Oh of course. But the way it is worded puts the two in the same sentence in

all 3 emails. For someone who doesn't understand how disease spreads or that these are 2 different things, it makes it sound like getting a flu shot will prevent one from getting COVID-19.

If you have the regular flu, then Covid-19 is simply going to be the death blow, as you will already be compromised.

6. Oh good grief, of course I do. My trouble with this is the way it is worded

It has led to a wording in all 3 of the instances that without careful reading, puts getting the flu shot in the same sentence with preventing COVID-19. People are going to misinterpret that, especially after listening to our illustrious idiotic IMPOTUS calling it the "corona flu" and "this will all be over in April" as if it is the same as the end of flu season.

But given that the approach to Covid-19 is much like the old nuclear attack survival instructions, it would be nice if people had flu shots to avoid at least that possible compromising factor.

9. No joke. It didn't work too well in my locale this year, but...

...the folks who still got sick weren’t hospitalized and seemed to recover faster than the ones who didn’t get the vaccine. Staff unfortunately had to stay home and then get hit with an attendance occurrence on their employee record.

A government agency using wording that could be interpreted mutiple ways -- including interpretation that supports the white house statements about the flu vaccine.

Follow medical experts suggestions for avoiding/combating this health threat. There are fools out there.
